This coffee is the third to come to us via Cafe Imports “Regional Select” program. The program is designed to create a “taste of place” experience, giving the brewer/drinker a broad overview of what that region’s coffee has to offer in terms of flavor. This particular lot is sourced from multiple farms and producers across the Nyeri region of Kenya, which lies between Mt. Kenya and the Aberadare Mountains.This blended lot from the Nyeri region speaks to many classic Kenyan flavors. The cup is linear and consistent, and opens up as it cools. The presence of grapefruit-like acidity is noticeable when hot, but mellows as the cup cools. The main body of the cup lies in a dried stonefruit tartness like plum, which interplays nicely with the rich sweetness that’s present throughout the cup as an undertone. Much like burnt sugar and molasses, the sweetness is earthy and warm with a subtle dryness. A subtle hint of black tea offers the final note to round out the cup.
