When my mind’s eye visualizes Rousseau’s statements on humankind in the state of nature, I can see Valle Pauran, the community in central Peru from which this week’s coffee originates. Valle Pauran has soaring altitudes with apexes reaching 2600 masl, with all the coffees grown here starting at 2000 masl or higher. The region is remote and very difficult to get coffee out, limiting production and exporting to just under a full shipping container’s worth of green coffee (300 or less of 69 kg bags). The Valle Pauran is composed of three families living and working in close proximity to each other. The resident agronomist for this region is a woman named Norma Vasquez who provides knowledge and training on fertilizers, pruning, and selective harvesting. This is a relatively young region growing speciality coffee, and with such elevations, it is definitely a region to keep an eye on. This lot consists of Typica and Bourbon varieties (washed). We found notes of raisian, blood orange (maybe lime) and pie spices, like cinnamon. Please enjoy it. As always, thank you for letting us share coffee with you.
