The 2020 fresh crop of Kenya Gachatha AB is here. There are around 1,000 farmers near the town of Othaya in Nyeri County who contribute their harvest to the Gachatha Cooperative. This coffee was grown at 1,800 - 2,000 meters and is fully washed in the traditional Kenya style. The varietals in this lot are SL28 and Ruiru 11. The flavor, as with most Kenya coffee, is assertive and extremely pleasing. Look for notes of blood orange, raisin, and hints of caramel. The coffee has a pleasing body and suggestion of ‘stickiness’ on the tongue, with a long finish of crisp tart juicy blood orange. This cup compares favorably to last year’s Gachatha harvest, which we shared with subscribers. I think this year’s cup might have a slight edge, due to it feeling slightly more structured in the drinking experience. Please enjoy. Be safe. Be well. And thank you for trusting us with your daily coffee practice.
