Notes: Citrus, Honeydew

In the last year and a half, Ethiopia made a material change in how green coffee is bought. This change allows for a bit more traceability and interaction back to the producers. This coffee benefits from those changes. The present coffee lot is being referred to as ‘special prep’ due to the special attention paid to removing both under and overripe cherries before pulped and processed. Our importer’s convey the following information about the Kayon Mountain farm from which this coffee is grown. “The farm is 500 hectares with about 300 hectares planted in coffee, and has been owned and operated by Ismel Hassen and his family since 2012. It is located 510 kilometers south of Addis Ababa, and the property crosses the border of two villages—Taro and Sewana—located in the Orogmia region, in the Guji zone of the Shakiso district of Ethiopia.” In this cup look for notes of orange and lemon citrus, some zest or pith notes, hints of melon (watermelon and honeydew), and a suggestion of unsweetened cherry syrup. As always, enjoy!
