Serra Negra, or “black mountain” is a Brazilian profile that captures the most classic profile from Minas Gerais. So think field blend, community lot, or something like the Colombia Excelso we bring in almost year round. We almost never source Brazilian coffees. During our 15 years of service, the total number of Brazilian lots we have brought in number less than five. A significant part of our experience with Brazilian coffees, no matter the process or sub region, is the heavy and clear notes of nuts in the cup. Sensing a trend away from alt-processed and cofermented coffees, we wanted to offer something quintessentially classic in its flavor presentation. It’s delicious, simple and straight forward, and will play well with everything you throw at it, whether that’s espresso, filter or cold brew.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBrazilian coffees are well known for their hearty, nutty flavor profiles, and this lot is no exception. Bold notes of star anise and black walnut lead the way, backed up by a subtle hint of citrus, read most easily as lemon water.
